Zedd’s 'Clarity': The Anthem That Defined the Golden Era of EDM

You've probably heard Zedd's "Clarity" blaring from festival speakers or late-night playlists if you were alive during the EDM heyday in the early 2010s. The song was more than just a melody; it was a moment. Clarity became the type of anthem that could simultaneously make you dance, cry, and feel unstoppable thanks to Foxes' moving vocals and that memorable drop.

Zedd, whose real name is Anton Zaslavski, began his career as a classically educated musician before embracing electronic music. He had an advantage because of his experience on the drums and keyboard; he wasn't just clicking buttons; he was creating symphonies that were passed off as EDM hits. Not only did Clarity top the charts when it came out in 2012, but it also changed the perception of what electronic music might sound like.

Clarity's unadulterated passion was what set it apart. Zedd changed the course of EDM, which at the time was all about drops and party vibes. The song struck a sweet spot between sadness and euphoria because to Zedd's epic production and its powerful lyrics, which ask, "If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?" It is understandable why it won the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.

Zedd didn’t slow down after Clarity. He later worked with some of the biggest pop stars, such as Alessia Cara (“Stay”), Selena Gomez (“I Want You to Know”), and Ariana Grande (“Break Free”). Every song has the distinct Zedd sound—clear production, a strong emotional core, and a ton of replay value. But despite all the hits, Clarity—the ideal balance of passion and heart—remains his most iconic moment.

Clarity still has an impact on Gen Z listeners who are discovering it years later. Perhaps it's nostalgia or simply that fantastic, but the song keeps making the rounds on TikTok and reappearing on playlists devoted to "songs that defined an era." It demonstrates that Zedd was writing soundtracks for memories rather than just music for clubs.

Clarity is still impenetrable more than ten years later. Not only is it Zedd's biggest success, but also serves as a reminder that feeling is timeless in a world full of algorithms and remixes.

When a Cold War Turned Hot: A Hip-Hop Beef for the Ages When a Cold War Turned Hot: A Hip-Hop Beef for the Ages For over a decade, they were two kings ruling separate kingdoms. Drake , the undisputed king of charts, streaming, and global pop stardom. Kendrick Lamar , the lyrical king, the critical darling, and the Pulitzer Prize-winning voice of a generation. They collaborated, they competed, but mostly, they co-existed in a tense "cold war." In 2024, that cold war finally exploded into an all-out lyrical battle that shook the foundations of hip-hop. The Background: From Collaborators to a Cold War (2011-2023) It wasn't always this way. The Songs They Tried to Silence: Legendary Musicians Who Were Censored

When a melody becomes a mirror, powers anxious to stay comfortable reach for the volume knob. From protest anthems that rattled governments to sensual ballads that scandalized radio waves, censorship in music is less about decibel control and more about who gets to tell the story. Imagine standing in a crowded square and hearing a voice that refuses to lie. That voice can be a singer in Lagos blasting through an open window, or a folk guitarist in Santiago strumming a chorus for workers, or a punk band in London sneering at the coronation spectacle. As someone who believes art maps truth, censorship is the moment the map gets redacted. Studying these redactions shows us what regimes fear, what cultures refuse to face, and how music often becomes the language of resistance. Below are six emblematic stories each a small history and a cautionary tale. Sources are linked after each section so you can dive deeper. Fela Kuti - Afrobeat, state violence, and an outlawed voi...
